What Are Planet Signs?

When you were born, each planet stood in one of the twelve zodiac signs. Your Sun sign is the famous one, but the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and the slower planets each add a layer: emotions, thinking, love, drive, growth and lessons. Together they form your natal (birth) chart.

Personal vs Generational Planets

The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars move quickly and differ even between people born weeks apart — they're the personal planets. Jupiter and Saturn change sign every one or two and a half years. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto stay in a sign for seven to thirty years, so they describe whole generations.

Do I Need My Birth Time?

For the Sun and most planets, the date is enough. The Moon moves about 13° a day, so it can change sign on your birthday — the calculator warns you when that happens. Your rising sign (ascendant) and houses need the exact time and place. See the big three calculator.

How Accurate Is It?

Positions are computed from orbital elements with the main planetary perturbations — accurate to a fraction of a degree for 1900–2100, which is ample for signs. Time zones and daylight saving are handled automatically for the city you choose.
